Technology is advancing, and I need to keep up! This week in class we were introduced to different web 2.0 tools that can help make a teacher’s life a little easier. A lot of the tools mentioned had some amazing features which I will discuss later.
After learning about different technology that can be used in the classroom, I am most excited about Pinterest. Pinterest is a tool that provides various instructions, lesson planning ideas, and classroom decorating tips that will be so useful for when I finally get my own classroom. While home decor and house renovations are typically what Pinterest is most recognized for, an article I read made it sound like Pinterest is so much more! Pinterest is very user friendly; you can create an account and make different boards where you can “pin” different ideas. For example, I have a board for classroom decorations, so I pin all the classroom decorations that I like and want to implement to this board. I also have a board for physical activities to do inside (in case of indoor recess or if the students need a quick break), here I “pin” all the activities I like and want to be able to come back to.Pinterest is full of ideas from A-Z, which is what makes it so versatile. The video below provided me with some insight on how to use Pinterest in my life as a teacher. I plan to use Pinterest a lot during my career.
Another tool that I am excited about is Quizlet. Quizlet has been a staple in my current studies, and it has made learning fun. Quizlet is an online flashcard creator that provides entertaining and rigorous ways to study. On top of keeping all your flashcards, Quizlet can also create a practice quiz with all your terms/definitions. It can also be used to create and share flash cards among large groups. That way each member is studying the same set of words and definitions. This eliminates any miscommunication of terms and their definitions.Another thing I really liked about Quizlet was the game feature. You can turn your game playing into studying! How cool is that? Because of how multipurpose Quizlet is, I plan to use it as often as I can in my career. I want to provide my students with as many resources I can that will get them excited to learn. Quizlet has various different styles in order to accommodate everyone’s unique preferences.Below is a video that helped me understand the various uses of Quizlet.
Mackenzie, I too love Pinterest! It's kinda scary how many boards I have with categories. Sometimes I come across some amazing project ideas and possible worksheets that are just amazing! Also, Quizlet is a wonderful tool to help study things that require flashcards such as math or vocabulary. Both of these tools are awesome and I can't wait to use them in my class. Thanks for your hard work! Your blog looks great!
Thanks for stopping by! When I discovered that I could use Pinterest in my professional and personal life, I was so excited! I've only ever used it for home decor and recipes. I love Quizlet! It makes studying go by so quick and I truly feel like I remember the material studied long after a quiz.
Mackenzie, I also talked about Pinterest. I have used it for many other thing sin the past but now I'm excited to go back to using it more frequently and starting some boards for when I am a teacher. It is a fun place to get new ideas and seems to be super helpful as teacher. Great post!
I was also excited when I found out how I can use Pinterest differently! It is going to be so helpful when I am a teacher! What a great place to get new ideas!
Kenzie, Pinterest became too dangerous for me so I had to quit. I was spending so much time scrolling and "pinning" awesome ideas! It think it's an excellent resource for teachers to help get their creativity flowing. Quizlet is a great resource for any age. I especially like how you mentioned that it's a great tool that keeps everyone on the same page about study materials. There's no miscommunication about which chapters to study or which vocabulary words to remember. Great tools!
You are so right about Pinterest! I could spend hours on there pinning things! I love that there is no miscommunication on study materials when using Quizlet for big groups! I don't know how many times I would study the wrong definition for a certain term just because I accidentally copied it down wrong. Thanks for visiting my blog!
